I am a N.E.R.D.

Although I am busier than I have been all year, preparing finals and end-of-the-year "stuff," there is a spring in my step!

Before we moved to San Francisco, before it was even a thought, I read a book, "The Devil's Teeth" about a woman's stay on the Farallon Islands. She observed two biologists and their life on the Farallons during shark season. The islands are about 30 miles off the coast of San Francisco and were called "the devil's teeth" by sailors back in the day for a few different reasons: 1.) due to the tremendous amount of shipwrecks around the island, and 2.) due to the large numbers of Great White sharks that call the Farallon Islands home for a good part of the year. Reading this book, I was engrossed and fascinated by the history of the islands and the personal "relationship" the biologists had with the sharks. I mean they weren't in the water with them riding them like Shaamu, but they got to know the personalities and nature of such enormous animals who have such a bad wrap.

With that being said, I can explain my bouncyness...I, along with two other biology teachers, have the amazing opportunity to board a research vessel and go to the Farallons at the beginning of shark season! It's been a dream and I can't wait! I am trying not to hope too hard for the day to come sooner because I would be wishing away my summer vacation, but I really can't wait. It will be amazing!!!!!!
